Yarns from Yandilla Book Launch
I have pleasure in inviting you to the Book Launch of Yarns From Yandilla on 10th December, 9:30am at the Gold Coast Elanora Library where my grandchildren will read snippets from the yarns.
I feel this is most appropriate because they were, and still are, inspiration for tales about everyday life, about facing challenges, overcoming problems and learning to play with confidence as they ‘tinker with tools in the head’.
Because the yarns grew in tandem with the natural curiosity of children and my passion for telling stories we make a good team.
From the time they were babes I spent wonderful holidays traveling with the family and found that stories became an integral part of the trips. Naturally, they demanded a hero who faces lots of challenges so I introduced a newcomer to Australia, young Barry Badger, whose challenge was to learn more about himself and much about Australian animals.
Having grown up on properties in western New South Wales, I drew upon memories from my father’s yarns of the bush and animals. And, with input and memory jogs from the children, the stories grew like Topsy.
Maybe memories of my dad’s yarns motivate me, maybe years of teaching enable me, maybe a life of making images prompts me to see things in a different way, maybe … who knows?
I was not always a grandmother.
You might like to find out more about me for yourself so do visit my website to decide if I have earned the right to pass on stories in images and words.
I look forward to hearing from you and I’d love you to join in spinning yarns with Lilly, James and me on 10th December, 0930 at the Gold Coast Elanora Library.
I shall be talking to Nicole Dyer, ABC Radio Gold Coast at 10.30am, Monday 4th November.
