Presidents Report – May 2013
A message from Julie Boyd
Apologies that I am unable to contribute to this month’s newsletter. With ongoing computer problems this has proven to be a greater challenge than first anticipated.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting next Saturday and being back on board for the June edition.
From the Vice President & eWriteabout Editor
I thought I would contribute to this edition in my capacity as Vice President, seeing Julie has been unable to send through her report this month.
Firstly, I would like to thank both Julie Boyd and Jeannie Barker for their amazing presentations at the April meeting, sharing the benefits of using social media as writers. There was so much information offered and both ladies contributed their time and resources on a voluntary basis. Jeannie has sent through an overview of what she covered last month (see page ) and further details are available on the website. Jeannie has offered to do a longer workshop, expanding on this topic. If you are interested, please let Jeannie know via email or at a meeting. email@example.com
As we come closer to the end of another financial year, I would just like to let you know that a new membership renewal system is being implemented, thanks to our Membership Secretary, Christina Jablonski, in liaison with Webmaster, Jeannie Barker. For those members who joined before June 30 2012, membership will fall due on June 30 each year. However members who have joined since then will have their membership valid for 12 months from the date they joined. Members will be asked to renew within the month of their renewal date, to keep their membership active. This has been implemented to make the process more streamlined for both members and those responsible for memberships on the committee. Please bear with us as this transition to the new system occurs.
Members of the Gold Coast Writers Association and others in the community have continued to contact us to ask whether the workshops run by Gold Coast Writers Workshops are under the auspices of the GCWA. We wish to clarify once again that the workshop group is a completely separate entity/business to our association.
Something to consider over the coming few months is the upcoming AGM in September, with the election of the committee. If you are interested in being a part of this in any capacity, have a chat to any committee member about their role and what this involves. We have a very dynamic group on the committee, from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of talents. We welcome you to consider taking a role in the running of your association.
Thank you for your ongoing support as members of the association, and with your help, we look forward to continuing our contribution to writing, the arts and culture on the Gold Coast.
We hope to see you at the meeting on May 18.
Wishing you a wonderfully creative month!
Best wishes, Angelika
