President’s News – September 2014
Hello Members and Friends
What an interesting and diverse month it has been. We have transitioned from winter into spring – do I hear a few cheers out there? If so, you will be joining me. It is an exceptionally busy time for me, as I come to the end of another year at University. The greatest pressure is to complete a number of assignments by their due dates – which all happen to coincide around the same time. The great thing is that I am almost two thirds of the way through my degree – only one more year to go.
This month we are coming to both the AGM and another fabulous Open Mike, on September 20. Members have the opportunity to share a piece of writing, something about their journey, or other information for writers in a 3 minute time slot. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org to book in.
We have received a number of committee nominations, however vacancies remain for the positions of Treasurer and Newsletter Editor, as well as a few other positions. If you would like to become part of a dynamic team taking the Gold Coast Writers’ Association to our 25th Anniversary in 2015, please contact me or submit a nomination form. A role on the committee offers valuable experience, as well as looking great on your resumé. I have accepted nomination for a second year as President, following a great deal of consideration of study/life/work balance. I look forward to an exciting year ahead!
The GCWA is participating in a series of free presentations for writers at Helensvale Library, from Saturday, September 13. Many thanks to Jeannie Barker for coordinating this event. Please see the newsletter or visit our website, www.goldcoastwriters.org, for further information. Bookings can be made by calling the library on 5581 1625. We hope to see you at one or more of the presentations.
Keli Lenfield has left the committee due to family and business commitments. We greatly appreciate Keli’s efforts on the committee and in the role of Editor. Thanks to Jeannie for creating the newsletter for these past two months – in conjunction with full-time study and her other roles for the association. We have some amazing people on the team!
I look forward to catching up during Spring Writers Week, at the next meeting, or via the newsletter.
Wishing you all a wonderfully creative month.
