President’s News – October 2013
Firstly, I would like to thank you most sincerely for the honour of being nominated once again for the position of President.
I welcome your new committee, a dynamic group of people I greatly look forward to working with. We have a diversity of members who have had experience on this committee, others who have shifted positions and those who have just come on board. For the full list of names, please see the last page of the newsletter.
An enormous thank you to Julie Boyd, who has stepped down after two years as President. Julie will remain an advisor to the committee in a new role as Emeritus President. We also wish Julie all the best for a return to complete health.
I wish to thank those who have left the committee: Christina Jablonski, who has held several positions over the past 7-8 years, including Membership Secretary; Helga Glinatsis, Catering Coordinator for the same period of time; Martin Line, outgoing Secretary; Julie Baythorpe, a General Committee member who has helped in many capacities; and Di Morris for assisting with competitions and articles for the newsletter over many years. We wish you all the very best and hope to see you at meetings.
The AGM was well attended by both members and visitors. Julie Boyd chaired the meeting and kept things light and fun during the election process – yes, Julie, you would make an excellent auctioneer!
We had several nominations from the floor and have filled all positions, although we have room for another General Committee member, if you are interested.
Our September monthly meeting showcased some of the talent we have in the association. Nine members shared their works, words and wisdom during the fun activity we call Open Mike. We will ensure we continue holding these at least a couple of times a year, in lieu of a guest speaker. It allows members to share their writing in a space that is supportive and unconditional. Thank you to all who participated. Gary Ivory, our new Vice President, took his three minutes to welcome visitors and highlight the benefits of being part of a group of like-minded people – several visitors were so impressed with Gary’s words, they joined during afternoon tea!
