President’s News – November 2010
Greetings fellow writing enthusiasts Karen Tyrrell’s enthusiastic talk at the October meeting was truly inspiring. Karen has accomplished so much in the past few years with her own writing and the Logan Writer’s Collective, plus creating the inaugural Logan Writer’s Week. During her fast-paced talk Karen shared her journey in writing her memoir Me and Her, a memoir of madness and her efforts to get published and advised all writers to “never give up!” on their publishing goals. karentyrrell.com
Jocelyn Leckie presented a different book launch at the meeting. She was being assessed on her talk for Toastmaster. Jocelyn gave a lively presentation on her book Choosing to Cross the Line and gave us some thought provoking information on the serious topic of abusive relationships. www.jocelynleckie.com.au Jill Smith was the first member to take advantage of our new Mini Book Promo slot (see last months newsletter for tips on how to present a good mini book promo). Members Time was quite popular, with five members taking the mike for their 3 minutes of fame including Angelika Heurich who shared news about her planned coffee table book and talk inspired by her recent trip to Sri Lanka. www.angelikaheurich.com
The committee is looking at potential workshop ideas for next year. We would appreciate if you could give us some feedback by sending in your ideas for workshops, suggestions for presenters and topics that would be of interest to you. We are considering a workshop presented by GCWA members in early 2011 – perhaps 4-6 presentations on various topics relevant to members. If you would like to be considered as a presenter for this workshop please email me with an overview of your topic and a suggested workshop activity. This is an opportunity for members to give back to the community by sharing their expertise with other members and encouraging them to develop themselves further.
Andrew McDermott Annual Achievement Award
Carole Sulzer is the recipient of our annual achievement award this year. Her dedication, professionalism and genuine warmth have been much appreciated in her role of Membership Secretary for the past five years and as a member in general. Congratulations to Carole on reserving such a well-deserved award.
Look forward to seeing you at the November meeting.
