President’s News May 2015
We are very excited to announce that we have been approved for funding from Gold Coast Councillor Greg Betts, Division 12, to the amount of $950 to replace our ageing analogue projector with a digital one and use any residual amount for further items we require. A letter will be sent to Cr Betts thanking him for this very generous donation from his round 2 divisional funding.
A number of events are being finalised as I write. The 2015 Literary Luncheon, now part of the Gold Coast Writers Festival, will celebrate Gold Coast Writers’ Association’s 25th Anniversary. It will be held at the fabulous Palmer Colonial Golf Course at Robina. Tickets will be available this coming week and I encourage you to book early, as we will have limited seating. Due to the settings, each table will accommodate 7 guests, plus a guest author. Should you have more than 7 in your group, please be sure to let us know, so we can ensure you are seated at adjacent tables.
A special update will be sent out as soon as we have all aspects confirmed and tickets are available for purchase. We will once again have member discounts. Please keep Sunday, June 14 free for this special event. Updates will also be posted on both websites, www.goldcoastwriters.org and www.goldcoastwritersfestival.com.au. You can register to automatically receive news updates by going to the websites and can opt out automatically at the bottom of email messages, should you wish to.
At this time we are awaiting communication from both Gold Coast Libraries and Queensland Writers Centre regarding the presentation of workshops in the Read. Write. Create. program. These workshops will be run in collaboration and are dependent on both entities. Further updates will be sent as soon as they come to hand.
The Authors in Schools events will be happening over the two weeks prior to the luncheon and are being finalised. Apologies for the delay in confirmation to both schools and authors, as Gary Ivory, Vice President and coordinator of this event has taken ill and we are needing to manage this with a much smaller team. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Gary and just saying, your shoes are very big to fill!
Sausage sizzle fundraisers are continuing to go extremely well. Many thanks to Louisa Wright, our Secretary, and the volunteers assisting at these events. If you would like to help out, we have a sizzle booked every two months, with the next in July. Please contact Louisa, if you would like to be placed on the vollies list, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Keli Lenfield offered a very thought provoking presentation at the April meeting, on ways to promote yourself in professional and successful ways. Thank you Keli for donating your time. Our speaker on May 16 is the very engaging and versatile Dr Jo Coghlan. Jo is an author and lecturer at Southern Cross University. Jo has a fabulous style of presentation and I very much look forward to introducing her and hearing her speak.
Until we connect again, I wish you a wonderfully creative month!
