President’s News – June 2015
I am very excited that we are only one week away from the 2015 Literary Luncheon. Presented as part of the Gold Coast Writers Festival, this year we will celebrate the Gold Coast Writers’ Association’s 25th Anniversary. The three course luncheon will be held at the Palmer Colonial Golf Course at Robina. As you will see in this newsletter, Keynote Speaker is the wonderful Susanne Gervay. We also have special guests, Kay Danes and Robyn Archer attending, with guest authors John Ahern, Chris Collin, Jo Coghlan, Louise Moriarty and Angela Sunde.
Tickets are only available until this Wednesday, June 10 and seating is limited. We have amended ticket prices to enable members to bring partners and friends, and for more non-members to celebrate with us. To book, please visit www.goldcoastwritersfestival.com.au/2015-literary-luncheon/.
The Read. Write. Create. program will be held in conjunction with Spring Writers Week this year, returning to the lead up to the festival in 2016. As some of you know, two of our management team, Jeannie Barker and Gary Ivory, have encountered major health challenges this year, necessitating these changes.
The Authors in Schools events will be happening over the coming months, with two schools booked prior to the luncheon. Many thanks to our liaisons, Karen Knight-Mudie and Keli Lenfield. Confirmations with other interested schools will be arranged after the luncheon.
Gary Ivory, our Vice President, is Principal of Surfers Paradise Primary School and celebrated 40 years as a Principal on May 18. Congratulations, Gary! What a lot of lives and young minds you will have touched and inspired over that time.
Sausage sizzle fundraisers are continuing to go extremely well. If you would like to help out, we have a sizzle booked every two months, with the next in July. Please contact Louisa if you would like to volunteer – email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dr Jo Coghlan engaged us all at the June meeting, expanding our perspectives on how to ‘double-dip’ on research we undertake for our writing, by using it in more than one way. Jo really had us considering the possibilities of how to expand our work. On July 20, we will revisit the ‘Make Things Happen’ workshop from January, by checking in on our achievements so far in 2015 and our further goals for this year. I will also bring in the concept that ‘Success lies within YOU’. It should be a lot of fun!
Until we connect again, I wish you a wonderfully creative month!
