President’s News – June 2012
The middle of the year already. Where on earth does the time go?
Plans for the Gold Coast Writers Festival and GCWA Literary Luncheon are well under way and we are close to being able to announce some very exciting authors for you to meet. Earlybird tickets are now available with first option being offered to GCWA members, of course. http://goldcoastwritersfestival.eventbrite.com.au
In a wonderfully generous gesture, Kev Webb, the guest speaker at the May meeting, donated his fee to the Festival to be used to support other speakers, so thank you, Kev.
We are in the process of planning another Paint and Prose competition with details to be available after the June meeting.
Hilary Hulett, one of our newer members, has a class of Year 2 students at Varsity College who are interested in forming a GCWA partnership. They have a virtual classroom providing the children with the opportunity to communicate through all pathways of technology. This is a very exciting project which we look forward to following through.
We are almost ready to launch the new platform for promoting members’ books. If you haven’t already done so, make sure you have your website and payment mechanisms ready so that we can get this moving as quickly as possible. Keep in mind that GCWA won’t be selling the books, you will. We will finalise this at the June meeting and let you know how to be involved in the next newsletter.
Please note, we now have a wireless internet connection so anyone who wants to make a presentation during members’ time at the meetings that involves a computer presentation, please let us know.
Don’t forget that we are selling Entertainment Books as a fundraising activity. Available at this website or you will be able to buy at the June meeting. These are excellent value: over $15000 worth of vouchers for only $55, and part of that goes to support our association. (see page 7) www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/149259m
