President’s News July 2015
What an amazing month this has been! I must offer my most sincere gratitude to everyone, including our committee, volunteers and all who attended, for making the 2015 Literary Luncheon such a success. I wish to offer special thanks to keynote, Susanne Gervay, special guests Kay Danes and Robyn Archer, guest authors John Ahern, Chris Collin, Jo Coghlan, Louise Moriarty and Angela Sunde. It was such a fabulous way to celebrate the Gold Coast Writers’ Association’s 25th anniversary at the beautiful Palmer Colonial Golf Club. The feedback has been wonderful and there are many photos to be viewed on Facebook pages for the GCWA and festival.
Acknowledgements must also go to the two schools who have participated so far in the 2015 Authors in Schools program, Merrimac High and Miami Primary schools. Liaisons, Karen Knight-Mudie and Keli Lenfield ensured that both the authors and schools were very happy with their presentations. Thank you, ladies. We look forward to working with more schools over the coming months.
As mentioned last month, the Read. Write. Create. program will be held in conjunction with Spring Writers Week this year. Workshops and presentations will be held at various venues on the Gold Coast from September 5 to 11. Please visit the Gold Coast Writers Festival website www.goldcoastwritersfestival.com.au for details as they are confirmed. Thanks to Jeannie Barker for coordinating this program. You can register on the website for updates, so please check your inbox regularly.
Our meeting on June 20 took an interesting tangent as we explored the concepts of what constitutes ‘success’ for each of us. There were some very interesting perspectives shared, as we revisited our goals for 2015 in a mid-year check-in. Thank you to Tania Elizabeth for sharing her journey thus far, in the writing of her series Tier of Eternal Grace and current interest from film industry professionals in Los Angeles. An excellent example of how following your passion can lead to incredible outcomes on your journey.
On July 18, we look forward to having journalist, Megan Norris, share her writing career highlights and tips with us. Megan has been a journalist in the UK and Australia for several decades. I may not be able to attend, as I will be participating in an international seminar. Gavin Fisher will kindly chair the committee meeting and Gary Ivory plans to emcee the monthly meeting.
Please note that the 2015 AGM will be held on September 19, when all committee positions will be up for renewal. I will be stepping down as president after my 2 years, as required by our constitution. If you would like to consider joining the committee in any capacity, we would love to hear from you – email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Nomination forms will be made available at upcoming meetings and on the website.
Until we connect again, I wish you a wonderfully creative month!
