President’s News – February 2015
Hello Members and Friends
I welcome you to another exciting year and the 25th Anniversary of the Gold Coast Writers’ Association. I trust that your entry into the New Year has been smooth and that 2015 brings you much joy, abundance and creativity. The Queensland Writers Centre (QWC) are also celebrating their 25th Anniversary and will be collaborating with us for the festival. I look forward to a year where I can assist in bringing about the 5th annual Gold Coast Writers Festival and celebrations for our anniversary. I am also about to begin the third and final year of my University degree, wondering what else the year holds for me.
Tracey Huaut, our Newsletter Editor, has resigned due to family matters and we thank her for her assistance. Until we have an editor, Jeannie Barker, our Webmaster and chief coordinator for the festival has said she will do the online version of the newsletter. However, the print version will not be available. Both Jeannie and I need to balance our study and personal commitments and are unable to commit to a print version. Apologies to those members on the mailing list. Jeannie is recovering from major surgery, so a couple of things will be on hold for the coming month. We wish Jeannie a full and speedy recovery.
We have a fabulous team on board for the coming year, both on the committee and as volunteers for the festival, however extra help is always welcome – the saying ‘Many hands make light work’ is very apt, and so true. If you are interested in being the editor, or joining the committee in a general role, please contact me via firstname.lastname@example.org.
To volunteer for the festival, please submit your expression of interest (EOI) via the website www.goldcoastwritersfestival.com.au. Submissions for this will remain open until closer to the festival. EOIs for presenters at the Read Write Create and Authors in Schools events will close in March. Due to the high number of EOIs, we may not be able to invite everyone to present, however we are very grateful for all submissions. It’s fabulous to have so much interest and we look forward to offering a diverse range of presentations, panels and workshops.
We are also seeking sponsors for the festival, so if you or a business you know would like to offer support, please let me know. We already have generous sponsors on board, including QWC, who will be presenting a workshop at the festival.
At the February 21 meeting, we are very pleased to have highly acclaimed author Susanne Gervay as guest speaker. Susanne has extended her time on the Gold Coast specifically to attend and will be speaking on the topic of Writing Stories that Matter. If you would like to know more about Susanne and this meeting, please visit the website www.goldcoastwriters.org/events/.
I look forward to seeing you at a meeting, or connecting via the next Pres News.
Wishing you a wonderfully creative month!
