President’s News – February 2014
Hello Members and Friends
I would like to wish you a Happy Chinese New Year – Year of the Horse.
My thanks to everyone who contributed to the January meeting. The presentations by members at the Open Mike once again highlighted the talent within our group. We were treated to a variety of writing, knowledge and performances. Thank you to Jeannie Barker for very interactive and beneficial mini-workshop on marketing yourself as a writer by presenting an author talk.
Meetings with community organisations, council and businesses continue, as we finalise funding and details for the 2014 Gold Coast Writers Festival. If you would like to assist in any way, please visit the website and register your interest. Also let businesses and community groups, who may wish to become part of this event, know they are welcome to contact us. www.goldcoastwritersfestival.com.au
Stay informed by ensuring your personal details are up to date. For members, please advise our Membership Secretary of any changes to your address, email or phone number. You can also register for information via the online registration forms on both websites, for the Festival and at www.goldcoastwriters.org, or connect via Facebook.
On a personal level, I am currently working in collaboration with a very talented photographer in Tasmania. We are creating a book of ‘messages to inspire’, both visually and in words. I have to admit that I am still working through the fear of putting this very personal kind of writing into the form of a book, even though I have had this and other writing ‘out there’ in various forms many times before. I would love to hear from writers (and would be writers) about what impacts you when writing on subjects close to your heart. You are welcome to email me and we can include some of your replies on the website, Facebook and perhaps in the newsletter – either with your name or anonymously. I will also keep you updated on how my own journey is progressing. (Now I’ve made a public commitment, haven’t I!) firstname.lastname@example.org
I hope to see you at a meeting, or to connect via the next newsletter. On February 15, we look forward to a member book launch and guest speaker, MaryAnne Leighton. You will find the details below and on the website.
Wishing you a wonderfully creative month!
