President’s News – December 2015
—Roald Dahl, WD
Hello Members and Friends,
Yes it’s that time of the year again, so I’m going to keep it short and give you enough time to wrap your Christmas presents and prepare the eggnog. And what a year it’s been…
As 2015 draws to a close we can look back on countless achievements, both personal and collectively as the Gold Coast Writers Association.
Our annual Authors in Schools event grows from strength to strength and we are already receiving EOI’s from authors wishing to be part of next year’s event. The week culminated with our much anticipated Literary Luncheon which was held at the Palmer Colonial Golf Course this year. We had the privilege of being entertained by non-other than Susanne Gervay. Also present was our patron Kay Danes, with other distinguished guests including Robyn Archer, John Ahern, Chris Collin, Jo Coghlan, Louise Moriarty and Angela Sunde.
Our guest speaker at the November meeting was Professor James Carlopio. James kept us spellbound as he walked us through his journey of writing Sherlock Holmes and the July Crisis. A story written in the very own words of the original author Arthur Conan Doyle.
James is an academic of note and we look forward to hearing from him again at some point in the New Year, so watch this space!
Our Adult Writing Competition has drawn to a close. The winners in the two categories, namely Fiction and Non-Fiction will be announced at our meeting this month, on Saturday 12th December at the Burleigh Heads Surf Lifesaving Club.
The Sausage Sizzle fundraiser is ongoing and is a great fundraiser. Contact Louisa at firstname.lastname@example.org. if you would like to join us.
That’s it for this year. See you all on 12th December for our last get together for this year.
In case we don’t get the chance later, may I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, safe travelling…
