President’s News – December 2010
Greetings fellow writers
What an exciting and different meeting we had in November!
Peter Taylor had us all up and moving around to gather our bits and pieces to create a ‘house’ where we could write about a neighbour we had known. It was a great exercise in character development, a pleasant trip down memory lane, and a fun hands-on activity as well.
Peter also shared with us some of his fascinating experiences at the recent book fairs in Bologna and London, and some valuable feedback he received from editors and publishers. Peter’s illustration portfolio was delightful to view and his gorgeous calligraphy examples are true artworks.
Stella Davey launched her much awaited book Don’t Follow the Herd at the November meeting, sharing her personal health battles and the amazing things she found out during her journey to recovery. Patricia Huckle presented a mini promo for her recently published book My Eavesdrop Station, an Australian family saga.
Please note that there will be no January edition of the newsletter, but upcoming news will continue to be shared on the GCWA website and our social media pages during the holiday break.
Our final meeting for the year will be our Christmas Party where instead of the usual meeting format with a guest speaker we will have entertainment, Secret Santa gift sharing and some fabulous Christmas fare.
If you are participating in Secret Santa please bring along a gift wrapped present to the value of $5 (finding a fabulous unisex gift for $5 is a fun challenge!). Santa will be attending to give these gifts out personally.
It would also be greatly appreciated if you could support our charity drive by bringing along some non-perishable foods and gifts (labelled with appropriate sex and age for children’s gifts) for those less fortunate. Bags and boxes will be available to deposit your donations and these will be passed on to Set Free Care in time for distribution at Christmas.
Wishing members and their families a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.
