President’s News – August 2014
Hello Members and Friends
Well, it’s almost time for another AGM on September 20, so that means we have committee positions available for anyone wishing to participate in the running of the association. It takes a strong committee to bring you all the fabulous events, such as meetings, the festival and creative seminars. If you are interested, please contact me, or one of the committee members for a nomination form. If anyone wishes to take on the role of Treasurer, Gavin will be stepping down after 5 years, however will remain on as a general committee member.
Nominations also close on August 16 for the Annual Achievement Award. If you would like to nominate a member for their efforts, for the association or in their writing, please email me, or fill in a slip at the next meeting.
We are participating in or presenting a number of events, so please check the website for details. Some are paid events, others, in conjunction with Gold Coast Libraries, are free. We are excited to bring you extra activities, so please support with your attendance. If you have a topic of interest, please let us know. We will endeavour to source an expert in the area as a guest speaker or seminar presenter.
The July meeting was lots of fun, with the entire audience getting into ‘brainstorming’ mode. We created the concept of a travel book that had us planning all kinds of trips to exciting destinations, as well as undertaking some very interesting (and amusing) activities. Thank you to Jeannie Barker for creating this presentation and co-presenting with me. The mind maps we created certainly held a huge amount of valuable information that would make for an extremely fascinating travel book.
On Saturday, August 16, we have something a little different, with author Louise Moriarty presenting her poetry in the very fun and entertaining poetry slam style. Louise is very well known for her involvement in this kind of presentation and is well known for her involvement in a number of writing related events on the Gold Coast. We look forward to having Louise join us.
A special thank you to the team who conducted the sausage sizzle on August 1. Pen, Karen and Janet served up a storm at Bunnings, Burleigh Heads, raising much needed funds for the association. Many thanks also to Bunnings for their support and for supplying the equipment. If you would like to participate in a sausage sizzle, we have several more booked this year and welcome any help you are able to give. Please contact Louisa, our secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
I hope to see you at the next meeting, or to connect with you via next month’s Pres News.
Warmest wishes for a wonderfully creative month,
