President’s News – April 2015
Hello Members and Friends
This month I find myself reflecting on the way things evolve and synchronicity brings about wonderful surprises – and perhaps a little magic. I never cease to marvel at the way solutions appear, often in totally unexpected ways. Last month I wrote of being conscious of how easy it is to get swept up in the tasks of life. I will admit that this is still a work in progress for me. I am however taking more time out to walk and am blessed to live in such a beautiful location, with access to a boardwalk by Currumbin Creek. It gives me time out to muse, take in the sights and clear my mind – the exercise is good too.
We were pleased to announce the winners of the Adult Writing Competition last month. Many thanks to Bev Ryan for the final judging and to Jeannie Barker and Noela Cowell for their amazing contributions to making this competition such a success. Our sincere thanks also to the prize sponsors, Palmer Higgs Publishing and MJ Editing. I am very much looking forward to the competitions this year, one for young writers and another for adults, once again in the book proposal format. Our Competitions Coordinator, Noela, is busy making preparations, so keep an eye on the websites and newsletter for announcements, www.goldcoastwriters.org and www.goldcoastwritersfestival.com.au.
A reminder that we are in need of a few more volunteers to help with upcoming Sausage Sizzle Fundraisers at various Masters Hardware stores on the Gold Coast. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to join our team, please contact our Secretary, Louisa, via email at email@example.com. The next sizzles will be held at Masters Nerang on May 3 and again in July. We plan to vamp up our image by acquiring aprons with our logos for the vollies to wear. We’ll let you know when they arrive.
We had a lot of fun at the March meeting with the very candid and delightful Judi Young. Her stories were inspiring to say the least, with a touch of humour to give us a bit of a laugh. Many thanks to Judi. We are thrilled to announce that Keli Lenfield is our Guest Speaker for the April 18 meeting. Keli will share her exciting recent events, including publishing her book and launching an online course. Keli is known to many of you as one of the management team for the 2014 Gold Coast Writers Festival and former Editor of the newsletter. Keli has harnessed her experience as a former supermodel to write her book Everyone is a Supermodel. We look forward to having Keli speak for us.
Until we connect again, I wish you a wonderfully creative month!
