President’s News – April 2014
Hello Members and Friends
It has been another busy and productive month for your committee and the festival management team. We are in the process of applying for a further grant, have met with several potential sponsors and liaised with community groups, schools and businesses. I will keep you updated on our progress. Have a look at the end product of the short film created to promote the Gold Coast Writers Festival. Details can be found in the newsletter and on both websites. For more information on the 2014 festival visit www.goldcoastwritersfestival.com.au.
We have entered the Sunsuper Dreams initiative using the promotional video. This program offers $5000 to the ‘dream’ with the highest number of votes each month. Should we be successful, the money will be used towards funding the Authors in Schools Program on June 13. We have six schools across the Gold Coast confirmed as hosts, four Primary and two High Schools. Many thanks to Gary Ivory for his fantastic efforts in organising this day. We are also pleased to have the full support of John-Paul Langbroek MP, Queensland Minister for Education, Training and Employment. Voting for Sunsuper Dreams closes on 30 April 2014. Please make sure you visit the site and vote for us.
Many thanks to Niki Pearce for her presentation of the workshop, How to Make 2014 Your Best Year Yet, on March 15. Photos can be found on the website www.goldcoastwriters.org, our Meetup page and on the Facebook page. The meeting was very inspiring, with both members and guests participating in the lively, exciting and thought provoking interactions.
Expression of interest forms for authors wishing to participate in the festival program are available for a short time longer on the festival website. We are also finalising sponsorships and partnerships with organisations and businesses, as flyers will be released shortly. If you know of anyone wishing to participate as a sponsor, please ask them to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
An important reminder that the April meeting will be held on April 5, due to Easter falling on the third Saturday. We look forward to seeing you.
Until we next connect, I wish you a wonderfully creative month!
