DECEMBER 2011 – YOUNG ADULT & TEEN FICTION
This is a genuine, no fee competition that stretches over 12 months.
Each month a different genre; each month a winner. Winners are offered a
contract, paid royalties, and receive full promotion and marketing strategies.
This is not a competition with prizes. There is no entry fee.
Only Print Ready novels of genuine merit will be chosen.
Your book could be a winner.

Adult Writing Competition

Theme: Déjà vu
Categories:
- Short Story – maximum 2,500 words
- Non-fiction – maximum 2,500 words
- Writing for Children – maximum 2,500 words
- Poetry – maximum 50 lines
Entries exceeding the word or line count will be disqualified.
Prizes (per category):
First – $400
Second – $200
Third – $100
Highly Commended certificates may also be awarded
Total prize pool – $2,800
Entry Fee: $12 per entry; multiple entries are permitted.
Deadline: 14 August 2011
Originality: All entries must be original and the work of the stated author only. Any entries found to be plagiarised will be excluded from the competition, and, if prizes have been awarded, they must be returned.
Judging: The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Notifications: Award winners will be notified by email and/or phone.
Copyright: Copyright of entries remains with the author.
Publication: The Committee of the Gold Coast Writers’ Association Inc. reserves the right to publish the winning entries, without payment, on the Association’s website and in a commemorative eBook.
Presentation of Prizes: Prizes will be presented at the GCWA Annual Literary Luncheon in September 2011.
Prize monies will be paid electronically to the winner/s who are unable to attend the presentation in person.

Payment must be made online via credit card or PayPal as part of the submission process.
Additional submissions may be added by loggin in to the site and submitting another entry.

- Short Story – 7-10 years – 300 words

Submission of entries is by online submission at goldcoastwritersassociation.submishmash.com/Submit
By submitting an entry you agree to the following conditions:
- I declare the work submitted is my own original work and that no part has been copied from any other source.
- I give permission for my entry to be published on the Gold Coast Writers’ Association Inc. website and in a commemorative eBook.
If unable to submit entries online, please contact us for an entry form.
Conditions
All entries must be original and the work of the stated author only. Entries exceeding the word count by more than 10% will be eliminated from the competition. Any entries found to be plagiarised will be excluded from the competition, and, if prizes have been awarded they must be returned.
Note: Proof of age of the entrant must be provided upon request.

Calibre Prize for an Outstanding Essay

Australian Book Review (ABR) and the Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) seek entries for the fifth Calibre Prize for an Outstanding Essay, the nation’s premier award for an original essay and one of the world’s most lucrative essay competitions.
The Calibre Prize is intended to generate brilliant new essays and to foster new insights into culture, society and the human condition. We welcome essays from leading authors and commentators, but also from emerging writers. All non-fiction subjects are eligible: from life writing to literary studies, history to politics, biography to philosophy, natural history to popular science, travel writing to environmental studies.
First Prize: $10,000
